IRON MAN IS BACK!

Avengers’ Robert Downey Jr ‘set to return as Iron Man’ as he joins Disney+ show.

Five months after Avengers star Tony Stark sacrificed himself for the greater good in Avengers: Endgame, Marvel sources have claimed he is preparing to return as Iron Man once more.

Say what?

With the Marvel Cinematic Universe entering phase four with the likes of Black Panther and Captain Marvel, the old guard appeared to have hung up their shields and suits at the end of Endgame. But the upcoming launch of new streaming service Disney+ will allow for more Marvel stories to be told, and it has been reported that Downey Jr will return as Tony once more in a voiceover capacity for rumoured new series Ironheart.

Ironheart follows Riri Williams, the teenage genius who continues Tony’s legacy in the comics, and according to We Got This Covered their source alleges that the company has got Downey Jr on board to voice Tony who will appear as an AI – similar to Paul Bettany’s J.A.R.V.I.S – and will help her train to become a superhero.

Ironheart was first introduced in 2016 although received heavy criticism for the inaccurate portrayal of a typical black female teenager and the lack of black female writers on staff for the character.

Eve Ewing took over in 2018 when Marvel launched a standalone comic for Ironheart. Perhaps in the biggest sign that this could move forward, in mid-2019 Ewing introduced Downey Jr at a gala leading to the actor giving his approval for Ironheart to join the MCU as Iron Man’s replacement.
